英語講師インタビューPart3

こんにちは！TELACO英語教室です。

今回は、英語講師インタビューPart1で紹介したTalia（タリア）先生、
Part2で紹介したMatthew（マッシュ）先生へのインタビューの続きをご紹介します！

子どもたちに英語を教えるプロである先生たちは、

英語教育において日本の子どもたちに必要なものは何なのか？
子どもたちの英語力を伸ばすには何が必要なのか？

という点についてどのようにお考えなのか、聞いてきました。

-Regarding English education, what do students in Japan need to in order to achieve better results in language learning?
（英語教育の観点から、日本の子どもたちに必要なものは何だと思いますか？）

Talia：
The language input (especially listening) needs to be meaningful so that students will be motivated to be mindful and want to try and imitate what they hear. Also, language should be a means, not an end. Therefore, more communicative learning activities that encourage learning about the world through the use of English will achieve better results.

まずは普段からリスニングなどにより、英語のインプットを増やすことだと思います。そして、英語を見たり聞いたりするたびに、豊かな語彙や適切な表現に気づき、真似してみようと心がけることも大切だと考えています。言葉を「習う」ことがゴールではなく、言葉を「使って」もっとコミュニケーションの幅を広げましょう。英語「で」世界をもっと知りましょう。

Matthew：
I very much agree with my colleagues. A greater emphasis on speaking-out, combined with more exposure to the English language in meaningful and natural environments from an early age is important. In such a connected world it is much easier now to access interesting media sources where kids can discover language, such as foreign TV channels and YouTube. At a young age, the muscles in children’s mouths are very flexible and they will naturally try to compare their voice with what they hear and mimic the language they enjoy, so it is the perfect time to put emphasis on speaking out loud while reading to train these muscles. Of course, all skills – listening, speaking, and reading – are important and like any skills training, practice makes perfect.

こちらについても同僚とよく議論するのですが、幼少期より有意義かつ自然な環境の中で英語という言葉に触れ、さらに話すことに重点を置くことが重要です。世界との結びつきの強い現代においては、海外のテレビ番組やユーチューブなど、子供達が言葉を発見できるような興味を引くメディアに、より簡単にアクセスすることができます。小さいうちは、口の中の筋肉はとても柔軟で、耳にする言葉と自分の発音を自然に比べ、楽しんで言葉を真似たりします。読むことで口内の筋肉を鍛えながら、はっきりと声に出して発話することに重点を置くのに、幼少期は完璧な時期なのです。もちろん、聞く、話す、読む、というすべての技能が重要で、他のスキルを磨くのと同じで、練習を積むことで完璧になる、つまり、「習うより慣れよ」が大切です。

-What comments would you like to give potential students?
（これから英語を始めるお子さまに一言お願いします！）

Talia：
Language learning is an ongoing process; it is very important to keep yourself interested and motivated. Don’t forget to acknowledge your every improvement and celebrate them!

言語学習に終わりはありません。ずっと継続して行っていくものです。そのためには、興味を失うことなく、少しずつでも、長く続けられることが大切です。自分が進歩するたびに、その成長に気づき、自分を褒めながら、自信をもって、英語の勉強を楽しんでいきましょう！

Matthew：
Come to the class knowing that you will have the most fun if you participate fully and have respect for your fellow classmates and your teacher. Be hungry to learn, be aware of what the class goals are, try your best to meet those goals, and of course, enjoy yourself! If you have trouble, express yourself. Talk with your teacher, talk with the TELACO staff. We are ready to help and support you.

仲間や先生を尊敬しあってレッスンに参加したら、クラスが最大限に楽しくなること間違いなし。習うことに常に貪欲で、クラスの目標が何かを意識し、その目標を達成するためにベストを尽くしましょう。もちろん、楽しむことも大切です。問題があれば、自分の思いを伝えてください。TELACOの先生やスタッフとお話ししましょう。私たちはいつでも喜んでサポート、お手伝いをさせていただきます。
